Maureen Long - Yorkshire Ripper Victim

On the night of Saturday, 9th July, 1977, the Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe left his wife, Sonia, at home in Tanton Crescent and drove off in his white Ford Corsair. Sutcliffe headed in the direction of Lumb Lane, which was in the red-light district of Bradford.

Maureen Long was living with an 'occasional' partner in Farsley, Leeds. Maureen Long had never been a prostitute - she was a 42-year-old mother. She was separated from her husband but they remained on good terms.

Jayne MacDonald - Yorkshire Ripper Victim

On Saturday, 25th June, 1977, Peter Sutcliffe met with some regular drinking companions for a night out in Bradford.

After dropping his friends home at the end of the night Peter Sutcliffe headed for Chapeltown in Leeds.

Sixteen-year-old Jayne MacDonald was also having a night out in Leeds' Chapeltown. Jayne MacDonald had earlier kissed her father goodbye and left their home in Chapeltown for an evening with friends at the Hofbräuhaus, a German-style ‘Bierkeller’ which was located in the city centre.

Patricia Atkinson - Yorkshire Ripper Victim

Patricia Atkinson was a 32-year-old divorcee who had three children living with her in Bradford. The flat was on the outskirts of Bradford's red-light area.

On Saturday, 23rd April, 1977, Patricia, or Tina, as she was more commonly known, had a night out in Manningham.

Patricia was well known in the pubs around Manningham and had a reputation for drinking heavily. At 11pm Patricia was seen heading towards Church Street.

Irene Richardson - Yorkshire Ripper Victim

Irene Osborne was born into a large working-class Glaswegian family – she had six sisters and three brothers. The family moved around with Irene having spells in London and Blackpool, before being in Leeds in 1977. 

Irene also had two children who entered the care system and were eventually fostered.

Emily Jackson - Yorkshire Ripper Victim

Emily Jackson, with her husband Sydney's approval, became a sex worker just before Christmas 1975. Sydney & Emily Jackson lived on the outskirts of Morley and had three children. Emily's dip into prostitution was only supposed to be a short term arrangement to get through some financial difficulties.

The Jackson's were owners of a Commer van. The van was usually parked in the corner of the Gaiety Public House, which was in the heart of Chapeltown. Emily Jackson took her customers back to the van whilst Sydney waited in the pub.

Wilma McCann - Yorkshire Ripper Victim

On 29th October 1975 Wilma McCann left her four children at home in her council house on Scott Hall Avenue and headed for Chapeltown for a night out.

It wasn't unusual for Wilma McCann to leave her children at home as her eldest child acted as babysitter.

At approximately 1.30am on the following morning, 30th October, an intoxicated Wilma McCann started to make her way home. Sadly, she never made it.

Olive Smelt - Yorkshire Ripper Victim

On Friday, 15th August, 1975, Peter Sutcliffe had a night out in Halifax with his long time friend, Trevor Birdsall.

Sutcliffe and Birdsall had visited several pubs before settling in the Royal Oak public house which was in the town centre. In the bar Sutcliffe told Birdsall that he thought the pub was full of prostitutes.

Anna Rogulskyj - Yorkshire Ripper Victim

Anna Patricia Rogulskyj, was a slim, blonde, Irish woman from Keighley, who went on to marry Roman, a Ukrainian, in 1957. Unfortunately, they went on to divorce in 1973. 

On Friday, 4 July 1975, Anna had argued with her current boyfriend, Geoffrey Hughes, so Anna travelled to Bradford for a night out. At approximately midnight Anna headed back to Keighley. It is understood she hitchhiked from Bradford back to Keighley.
